New Freedom, PA – June 3, 2019 - Steam Into History, a 501(c)(3) excursion railroad based in York County, PA, has updated its branding platform and adopted a new logo.

“We operate two types of locomotives,” Michael Patrick, President of the Board of Directors, explains. “We’re best known for our Civil War-era replica steam locomotive, but we also operate a vintage diesel locomotive, allowing riders to experience a former Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive on tracks once operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad!”

The organization also hopes to emphasize the Northern Central Railway, a famous railway that played a critical role in American history. Both engines operate on the former Northern Central Railway. During the Civil War, the NCR, as it is sometimes known, carried troops and supplies from the northern states into Maryland. This was critical to the Union Army supply chain. After the Battle of Gettysburg, President Abraham Lincoln traveled on the NCR to and from Gettysburg to give his legendary address, switching trains at Hanover Junction. Lincoln’s funeral train also traversed the Northern Central Railway.

During the post-war Reconstruction Period and Industrial Revolution, the Northern Central Railway was instrumental in the creation and expansion of American manufacturing, transporting raw materials and finished products throughout the industrialized Northeast.

In recognition of the historic importance of the railway, the organization will now be utilizing the name Northern Central Railway–Steam Into History.

This is reflected in the new logo, an abstract steam engine, and railroad tracks.

The new logo also provides a more modern look for the organization, something that aligns with their strategic plan to integrate S.T.E.A.M. education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) into their offerings.

The Northern Central Railway–Steam Into History will continue to operate a variety of family-friendly themed excursions along with regular scenic rides. Forthcoming special excursions include the Wild West Express Featuring the James Younger Gang, General, and Mrs. Robert E. Lee, Glen Rock Mill Inn Brunch Excursions, William C. Goodridge, and more.

The popular Steam Into History Gift Shop, located at 2 West Main Street in New Freedom, PA, will soon be featuring merchandise with this new logo.
