The End of the Rainbow Day Care Center's teaching staff will strive to develop a trusting, open relationship with all of the parents in our program. Please feel free to talk to any of the teachers or director if you have any concerns or questions.
The most important consideration in assessing a child’s development is sequence. The essential question is not chronological age, but whether the child is moving forward step by step in each area of development.
Information from our different observation tools (daily notes, Rainbow News, biweekly observations, anecdotal notes) help the teachers document the children’s’ learning process. Each area of development has different skills listed so that the teachers know what the child has accomplished and what they need to work on in the future.
A developmental checklist is done biannually for each child in the program. This checklist provides the teachers with a tool to document each child’s learning progress.
The End of the Rainbow Day Care Center uses the High Scope Curriculum to develop our weekly lesson plans. The Early Learning Standards are used to guide the development of our learning programs. Each child’s individual development and learning is constructed on a continuum that builds on prior experience and knowledge. Each child’s unique learning style, ability and experiences join together to support progress along the continuum.
Play is the vehicle through which children build knowledge. Our children have the opportunity to develop new skills by using the active exploration of hands-on materials. They have a safe and comfortable environment where they can practice these newly acquired skills and build on them to learn new information. Our teachers support children’s individualized learning opportunities by providing meaningful experiences that engage their interests, abilities, and culture. Effective classroom learning is a balance of self-discovery and supportive and nurturing teachers’ construction of challenging, yet attainable skills.
