New Freedom Borough and Northern Central Railway welcome Smoke on the Rail BBQ Festival, a Kansas City Barbeque Society State Championship paired with a community festival, to the heart of New Freedom July 28-29. During this event, Backyard and Master Series teams from around the country will fill Marge Goodfellow Park to test their pitmaster skills to find out who prepares the best chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket. Steak Cookoff Association cooks and teams will also battle for the best-cooked ribeye and ancillary category of anything with crab meat.
While the teams compete you can also enjoy:
Live music from The EXiles on Friday, and Jimmy the Whale, Clifton Bryan Country, and Generation Gap on Saturday.
Multiple food trucks and general vendors will be available for purchase along with beer and adult slushies for Adults 21+.
Everyone can sample and vote in the People’s Choice wing contest on Friday and the smoked pulled pork contest on Saturday, both cooked up by BBQ pitmasters!
