Nixon Park provides fun educational programs for all ages year-round. Programs for the month of August include:
Creature Corner Drop-In |
Drop-in anytime to visit the featured creature display. The display will include touchable objects, intriguing trivia, and a creature enthusiast to tell you all about it. *No registration required*

Stream Investigation |
A park naturalist will guide a search under rocks in the stream to find baby insects and other awesome aquatic critters. Bring extra water shoes or rain boots for walking carefully into the creek. Park visitors may not disturb the stream or pond outside of a naturalist-led program except within the nature play area. Appropriate for ages 6 and up with adult helper.

Nature Watercolor Classes |
Sunday August 15 from 12:30 to 2:30pm artist Teanna Byerts is excited to guide you through a beginners watercolor class outside in the shade with nature as our inspiration! All materials provided. Both classes are the same. Participants can sign up for one or both.
$10/person.
Nature Play Drop-in |
Saturday, August 21 9:00 am-4:00 pm & Sunday, August 22 9:00 am-4:00 pm enjoy self-guided nature play activity ideas and tools will be available in the nature play area. Trail activities are also available to borrow and return if space inside the play area is full.

Caterpillars Drop-in |
Curious about the world of caterpillars and butterflies? Drop-in (come during any part of the program & stay for as long or as short as you want) on Deb Carman, Penn State Master Gardener, Butterfly Educator, and her leaf-chewing friends. Meet some live caterpillars and learn about their habits and required habitats.

Park staff will read a story and guide activities focused on the theme. The group will then walk to the pond or creek together to search for animals and their food.
